Kathmandu valley Tour
The historical and mythical city Kathmandu derives its name from Kasthamandap temple, a temple built from a single tree. Originally, Kathmandu was known as Nepal and the name was given by Newars who were the original inhabitants of Kathmandu city. Legend states that Kathmandu was a big Lake and Lord Manjushree (Buddhist God) drained off water with his big sword by creating a gorge at Chobhar hill and thus making suitable for settlement. The original inhabitants (Newars) of Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur (Now known as Patan) were rivals and competing with each other for their arts and architecture. Thus they took the arts and architecture of their cities to the maximum level during 13th century to 15th century. Within this period, Buddhist people also started flourishing their arts by establishing magnificent stupas, chaitays and Monasteries inside the valley. These ancient monuments are listed under world cultural heritages sites by UNESCO. Seven of the UNESCO listed cultural heritages, Pashupatinath (Hindu temple), Boudhanath (biggest Buddhist stupa in Asia), Swayambhunath (popularly known as monkey temple), Changunarayan, Kathmandu Durbar Square (Durbar square means the palace of the then King of Newars), Bhaktapur Durbar Square and Patan Durbar Square are uniquely spectacular and each of them treasures mystical legends. Kathmandu valley is surrounded by hills to all its directions and view of the Kathmandu valley from these hill tops is magnificent. Moreover, these hill tops will reward you with the view of Mountain ranges. For instance, from the top of Nagarkot, you can capture mesmerizing Sunrise/ Sunset view and spectacular Langtang Mountain range.
