Annapurna Special Trek to Tilicho Lake

Tilicho Lake is a heavenly lake located at the highest attitude (4919 meters) of the world. Tilicho Lake lies peacefully at the centre of the surrounding peaks of Tilicho and Nilgiri. This trek adventure is challenging. This special trek route branches off from the main circuit from Manang and then rejoins at Yak Kharka. Then from Yak kharka the trial leads to Thorang La pass, the highest pass of the world (5416 meters). Thus this trek combines two main adventures of Annapurna region. The mesmerizing feel of Tilicho Lake and stunning views of Mountains makes this trial a wonderful trip. You can capture the views of Lamjung Himal (Himal means Mountain in Nepalese term), Annapurna II, Gangapurna, Annapurna III, Annapurna IV, Tilicho Peak, Pisang Peak, Nilgiri Mountain and Chulu Peak.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu airport, pick up and transfer to hotel

Upon arrival, our staff will pick you up and transfer you to hotel. Our Trekking Manager will discuss about the details about your trekking.

Day 02: Kathmandu to Beshi Sahar (790m) by regular bus

The drive from Kathmandu to Beshi Sahar will take approximately 08 hours. No Tourist buses are available to reach Beshi Sahar and thus we need to get a Local bus to reach Beshi Sahar. Now -a-days buses run up to Bhulbule which is one hour drive from Beshi Sahar.

Day 03: Trek to Bahun Danda (1300m)

The first Dao of the Trek is a Pleasant start crossing through lots of tea shops, few waterfalls and crossing the rivers continuously. The trial is a slow ascent until we reach at the foothill of Bahun Dada. To reach to the top of Bahun Dada we have to make a steep uphill ascent of approximately one and half hour. Bahun Dada is located at the top of the hill and provides some magnificent view typical land topography of Nepal.

Day 04: Trek to Tal (1800m)

Today's trial will start with the gentle descent downhill and few ascents and descents. The trekking trials cut through many village settlements and tea shops. Just Before reaching Tal, you will have to make up a steep uphill ascent for about approximately one and half hour. From the top point just before descending to Tal, the view of Tal settlement looks spectacular most likely as a drained off big lake. Tal means lake in Nepalese term.

Day 05: Trek to Chame (2700m)

Chame is headquarter of Manang district and it is a market stronghold for Manang district. Upon reaching Chame, you must put your entry in the tourist check point. The trial to Chame is more ascending uphill pathway than descends. The total duration of walk will be approximately five and half hour.

Day 06: Trek to Pisang (3200m)

The trekking trial from Chame to Pisang will approximately take 05 hours. After leaving Chame, within forty five minutes you will enter Danaque and leaving past Danaque the trial cuts into the thick tropical forests where you will find few tea shops on the way. The trial in the forest is steep uphill pathway and few obstacles lie in the way and the trial is slippery on this way. After crossing the top of the forest we will enter Temang village. Past Temang village there is another steep uphill ascent just after the suspension bridge. After that the path is gentle slope all the way to Lower Pisang.

Day 07: Trek to Manang (3400m)

From Pisang you will make a steep uphill ascent to Upper Pisang just after crossing the suspension bridge. From Upper Pisang you will continue to ascent uphill pathway and discover the mesmerizing lake. Past the lake there is steep uphill ascent of approximately 02 hours to reach to the top of Gyharu. From Gyharu the magnificent views of Annapurna II, IV, Gangapurna and Lamjung Himal can be captured. Your eyes remains stunned with the views of the mountains from Gyharu. Having refreshing tea at Gyharu you will walk a gentle slope for one hour to reach Ngawal where lunch will be served. From here steep downhill pathway followed by pleasant gradual walk of approximately 03 hours will lead to Manang village. The total duration of the journey for this day is six hours and thirty minutes.

Day 08: Excursion day around the Manang village

Manang is the best place to rest your muscles and free yourself. Few attractions like Gangapurna Lake, hundred rupees lama Monastery, Ice Lake and other places of attractions can be visited on this day.

Day 09: Manang to Shree Kharka (3800)

The journey from Manang to Shree Kharka will approximately take 05 hours. From Manang there is a slow uphill ascend until we cross a suspension bridge over Manang River. From the bridge, the steep uphill ascend will continue for 02 hours and then finally we reach Khangsar village. Lunch will be served at Khangsar and from Khangsar there is another uphill ascend of one hour and thirty minutes to finally reach the top of Shree Kharka. There are few hotels available here and in Tilicho Base camp so pre-booking is very important in the busy tourist season. You can leave your excess baggage at the Shree Kharka hotel.

Day 10: Shree Kharka to Tilicho Base Camp (4200m)

The trial to Tilicho Base camp from Shree Kharka is very gentle except for few short ascends. You need to be very careful at the landslide area just before reaching the base camp of Tilicho Base camp where rocks and pebbles are falling continuously. The pathway is also very narrow so you need to be careful on this trial. The total duration of the journey is approximately 05 hours.

Day 11: Excursion of Tilicho Lake (4919m)

To reach the Heavenly Tilicho Lake, you will have to make a steep uphill ascend for approximately 03 hours and then a gentle ascend of 45 minutes. There is a tea shop nearby Tilicho Lake where you can enjoy warm tea and coffee with the heavenly view of Tilicho Lake.

Day 12: Tilicho base camp to Shree Kharka (3800m)

We will retrace our step back to Shree Kharkha and stay overnight at the hotel.

Day 13: Shree Kharkha to Yak Kharkha (4000)

From Shree Kharka we will continue our journey to Yak Kharka. The trial starts with the gentle slope pathway until we reach an old abandoned village and then we descend downhill pathway across terrace farms. Then finally we reach the top of a hill, from where we can see Yak Kharka from a distant view. From there we will steeply descend down and then cross the river and join the main Annapurna circuit pathway. From there we will follow the gentle ascend towards Yak Kharka.

Day 14: Yak Kharkha to Thorang La high camp (4800m)

It will take approximately 03 hours to reach the Thorang La Base camp where the Lunch will be served. After Lunch we will follow the steep uphill ascend of approximately 01 hour and 30 minutes to reach to the Thorang La high camp.

Day 15: Thorang La high camp to Muktinath (3800m) via Thorang La pass

We will start our journey early in the morning in order to avoid the storm of late morning. From Thorang La high camp, it will take approximately 03 hours to reach to the top. There is a small tea shop at the top of Thorang la Pass and you can enjoy hot tea and coffee there. From the top of the pass, the slow descend of approximately 02 and half hour will lead us to Muktinath.

Day 16: Muktinath to Jomsom (2710m)

In the morning after breakfast we will make a quick visit to Muktinath temple that is significant for both Buddhist and Hindu people. Then we will slowly descend down to Jomsom from there and we will try to take secondary trial wherever available in order to avoid dusty road. We will walk along the bank of Kali Gandaki River to reach Jomsom. The total duration of the journey is approximately 05 hours.

Day 17: Jomsom to Pokhara by flight (20 minutes)

We will take the early morning flight from Jomsom to Pokhara. Afternoon flights are closed in Jomsom due to strong storm. The flight duration is only 20 minutes.

Day 18: Drive back to Kathmandu (06 hours)

From Pokhara you can either drive back to Kathmandu or fly back to Kathmandu. The flight duration is 30 minutes whereas the bus/car/private vehicles take approximately 06 hours.

Day 19: Airport drop for final departure

We will drop you in the International airport and bid you farewell.
